Josh VanMeter gave up one hit – a home run to Dakota Reinking – in Norwell’s 14-2 victory over North Side in Ossian on Thursday.
VanMeter struck out seven and walked one. Reinking’s homer came in the top of the fifth and final inning.
At the plate, VanMeter was 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBI.
Teammates Nate Shelton. Spencer Newell, Cale Schumm and Luke Hunter also homered, as the Knights racked up 11 hits off three pitchers.
BLUFFTON 7, BLACKFORD 5: In Bluffton, both teams had seven hits, but Blackford had four errors, two more than the Tigers.
Brock Pace was the winning pitcher.
CARROLL 5-1, SOUTH BEND ST. JOSEPH 1-0: Abbey White gave up five hits and one run, while striking out three, for the Chargers in the first game. Katy Guebard struck out 11 and gave up two hits in the second. Jackie Phipps was 3 of 5 with a run in the doubleheader.
ADAMS CENTRAL 3, FREMONT 2: In Decatur, the Flying Jets won all the singles matches, including Jessica Ripley’s 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 over Anna Thompson.
Both doubles matches went three sets, including the 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory by Ashton Tanner and Itzel Sanchez over Aubrie Sanders and Whitney Peterson.
NORWELL 4, BLUFFTON 1: In Ossian, Brittany Barger didn’t lose a game against Amanda Stone at No. 1 singles.
Kaitlynne Douglass won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2 over Allison Williams.
And at No. 3, Laken Chaney won 6-0, 6-2 against Lauren Stauffer.
BELLMONT 5, JAY COUNTY 0: In Decatur, Bellmont’s Alysha Helmrich downed Avery Loyd 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, and at No. 3 singles, Andrea Chronister won 6-1, 6-0 against Morgan Kaufman.
Kylie Berry won at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 against Brooke Fraley. That was the only set of the match that Bellmont didn’t win.
