Soul food cabaret opening this weekend

A new soul food restaurant, complete with live entertainment, is opening Saturday.

Tycoon’s Cabaret & Grill, 2650 Coliseum Blvd. S., is a cabaret in its traditional sense, owner Terrance Hurd says – simply, entertainment provided while an audience eats or drinks at tables.

And the goods being eaten are Southern soul food favorites, such as alligator nuggets and frog legs. Tycoon’s will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with hours from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. the next morning.

The restaurant will feature comedy routines, live R&B and live jazz on Saturday afternoons.

On its opening weekend, Tycoon’s will feature Chico Debarge, featuring DJ Bnasty. For tickets and more details, call 498-7212.

The following restaurants and shops have also opened or closed recently:

•Yogo Stop, 3001 Hillegas Road, opened last week. It is connected to a Phil’s One Stop, says owner Phil Carper, who also owns 12 of the convenience stores. The shop has indoor seating. This is his first frozen yogurt store. Yogo Stop has 21 flavors of frozen yogurt and 36 toppings.

•According to the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health, Old World Fudge in Glenbrook Square has closed. The shop had been outside J.C. Penney at the mall, where it moved in November after vacating its former home near Starbucks. According to the health department, Old World Fudge has moved to 533 W. Washington Blvd.

•A third location for Courtney’s Bakery is scheduled to open at 6505 E. State Blvd., formerly Gulmore Yogurt, says Kim Murphy, store manager at the Coldwater Road Courtney’s. She hopes the bakery will open Monday, but it could be later, she says.

•The health department has filed an out of business report for We’re Rolling Pretzel Co., 5311 Coldwater Road.
