Brownsburg senior Miss Basketball

Brownsburg’s Stephanie Mavunga was named the 2013 Indiana Miss Basketball, announced Wednesday by the sponsoring Indianapolis Star.

Mavunga received 79 votes from media members and coaches across the state.

Mavunga won by five votes, 79-74, over Hamilton Southeastern’s Taya Reimer. It was the closest voting in the annual award for seniors since Connersville’s April McDivitt edged New Albany’s Kennitra Johnson by three votes in 1999.

Both are McDonald’s All-Americans, and Reimer received McDonald’s Morgan Wooten Award as the top female player in America. Mavunga was the Gatorade/ESPN Indiana Player of the Year.

She averaged 23.2 points, 12.7 rebounds and 3.8 blocks.
