FORT WAYNE – A WANE-TV reporter was arrested on a drunken driving charge after being pulled over near her home early St. Patrick’s Day morning, according to court records.
Megan L. Reust, 25, has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding and operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of at least 0.08 percent but less than 0.15 percent, court records said.
According to Allen Superior Court records, Reust’s defense attorney entered a plea agreement on her behalf Wednesday, but the details of the plea were not immediately available.
A Fort Wayne police officer clocked Reust driving 57 mph in a 35 mph zone in the area of Hadley Road and Pointe Inverness Way at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the records said.
Reust, who lives in Pointe Inverness Apartments, had watery and bloodshot eyes as well as breath that smelled of alcohol, according to an Allen Superior Court probable cause affidavit.
Otherwise, she appeared orderly, had good speech and balance and was cooperative, the police officer who pulled her over noted in the affidavit.
The officer gave Reust some sobriety tests and then took her to the nearby Indiana State Police post on Ellison Road to administer a chemical breath test.
At least 30 minutes after the officer pulled her over, Reust’s blood alcohol content registered at 0.09 percent, according to the affidavit.
The legal limit to drive in Indiana is 0.08 percent.
Reust told the officer in the affidavit that she drank only one 12-ounce beer at Flanagan’s, an Irish-themed bar and restaurant on Covington Road near her home, prior to being pulled over.
When asked whether she felt like she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Reust answered in the affidavit: “I don’t really feel like that.”
She was booked into the Allen County Lockup and posted $750 bond shortly thereafter.
Her license was ordered suspended, according to court records.
When reached for comment, a representative for WANE said that station officials “do not comment on personnel matters.”
