Bill McGill looked out of his window and pondered that it was the 37th day of his 40-day fast to draw attention to violence in the community, and there had been no civilian-on-civilian homicides in Fort Wayne.A 27-year-old man allegedly stole handguns and diabetes medication from a Fort Wayne home, firing shots as he fled, court papers stated.
William Ankney of Hicksville, Ohio, was charged Monday with four felonies: theft and three counts of criminal recklessness.
The night of March 4, Ankney came into the home of two acquaintances, a man and woman, and picked up a handgun off their coffee table. Ankney pointed the gun at the two and left with a bag that held the man’s diabetes medication, which included insulin, according to court papers.
The man chased Ankney outside, and the two struggled over the gun. Ankney held onto the weapon and started shooting at the man. In the process, shots hit two garages with people inside them, the court papers state.
Ankney drove away in a black, four-door vehicle that was low to the ground and had tinted windows, court papers said. He has not yet been arrested.
The man who lost his diabetes medication and his handgun discovered that Ankney had also taken a second handgun, court papers stated.
Why Ankney took the diabetes medication is unclear. Bodybuilders have been known to use insulin to enhance their performance even though the drug can be deadly, researchers say.
