Electrocution presumed to cause workplace death

An Elkhart man who died late Monday at a factory in Ligonier Industrial Park was believed to have been electrocuted, officials said.

Ligonier police were called to Parker Hannifin, 1201 Gerber St., shortly after 10:15 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Gary Cox, a Ligonier police detective.

Mark A. Werbianskyj, 55, a Parker Hannifin employee, was found unconscious after collapsing while performing maintenance work, Cox said.

Several company employees found Werbianskyj and attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he died at the scene, Cox said.

Noble County Coroner Joan Cripe said an autopsy was completed Tuesday, but official results were not available.

“It is presumed that he was electrocuted,” Cripe said.

Parker Hannifin’s Ligonier location makes integrated sealing systems, according to the company’s website. Calls to the company were not returned Tuesday.
