19-year-old faces sex assault charges

– A 19-year-old Fort Wayne man is accused of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman at an apartment party Sunday.

Jerome James Karn III, of the 4800 block of Lafayette Street, was charged Thursday with felony counts of sexual battery and criminal deviate conduct.

According to Allen Superior Court documents, Karn and a woman had been drinking heavily at a party. They both ended up on a couch Sunday morning.

The woman later told police she awoke on the floor and that Karn had performed a sex act on her while she was unaware.

Karn claimed the two had been “making out” for most of the night and that the woman became angry when he tried to take their physical interaction further, court documents said.

Witnesses at the party said the woman was rebuffing Karn’s advances toward her all night, and that she even attached herself to others at the apartment to avoid him, court documents said.
