Cougars honored

Two Saint Francis basketball players received All-America status from the NAIA, it was announced Wednesday.

Senior guard Kayla Drake was named to the Division II women’s second team, and ex-Bishop Dwenger standout Scott Kohne was named to the men’s third team.

Drake, from Kokomo, averaged 15.8 points in leading the Cougars to the No. 2 national ranking and a berth in the tournament’s Elite Eight. Earlier, she was named All-Crossroads League first team, and to the All-NAIA tournament second team. She averaged 16.3 points in three tournament games in Sioux City, Iowa.

A two-time Crossroads League Player of the Week this season, Kohne was named to the all-league first team and was also named to the conference’s all-defensive team.

The 6-foot-7 forward was third in the league and 17th in NAIA scoring with a 19.0 average, third nationally in rebounding (10.2), first in the Crossroads League and 11th in the nation in blocked shots (55) and led the conference with 17 double-doubles.

Also, Huntington junior Shane Merryman was named to the All-America third team. The ex-Carroll standout averaged 21.9 points and also named to the All-Crossroads League first team.

Bruce Grimm Jr. of Grace was named to the All-America first team.
