A New Haven man is facing a series of felony charges stemming from a sexual relationship prosecutors allege he had with a girl beginning when she was 13.
Robert C. Carney, 41, was formally charged Wednesday with three counts of child molesting, four counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and three counts of child seduction.
In December, a now 18-year-old woman told her mother – and then police – that Carney began having sex with her when she was 13, according to Allen Superior Court documents.
The sexual relationship continued for several years, according to court papers.
When asked whether he had sex with the woman before she was 18, Carney would become quiet and at times only say he didn’t remember, according to court documents. He was being held in lieu of $107,500 bail.
