Break-in, assault suspect arrested

A man who burglarized an Angola gas station and battered a sheriff’s deputy was arrested early Monday after a brief foot chase, according to the Angola Police Department.

About 1:20 a.m., Angola police learned that a man, later identified as Tyler Osborn, had broken into a Marathon gas station at 620 N. Wayne St. Officers received a description of Osborn, and a short time later, a Steuben County sheriff’s deputy found him at Maumee and South Elizabeth streets, police said.

As the deputy approached, Osborn attacked him and then fled. Shortly afterward, a state trooper caught Osborn, police said.

The deputy was taken to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola and treated for injuries to his face, police said.

Osborn, 26, was booked into the Steuben County Jail on preliminary felony charges of burglary, battery to a police officer and resisting arrest, as well as a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. He was being held Monday evening in lieu of $3,000 bail.
