A 9-year-old boy was hurt in a snowmobiling accident Saturday afternoon south of Fort Wayne, according to Indiana conservation officers.

The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. in the 13700 block of South Anthony Boulevard Extended, south of Interstate 469.

The boy, William Lockwood, was driving a Polaris snowmobile in a field behind his home when he failed to negotiate a turn. He jumped from the snowmobile before it became lodged under a parked grain truck, conservation officers said.

Paramedics were sent to the scene, and Lockwood was taken by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital to be treated for rib and lung injuries, according to conservation officers.

He was in stable condition Saturday night, a hospital employee said.
