Jerry and Linda Vandeveer were recognized Tuesday by the Fire Department Merit Commission for the Law Enforcement/Firefighters Memorial.

FWFD to vote this week on merit board member

– Fort Wayne firefighters will vote this week to elect a member of the Fire Department Merit Commission.

Retired firefighters Dan Mauricio and Rich Dolsen Sr. are on the ballot to replace outgoing member Abner Crosby. The winner will be sworn in at the commission’s April meeting.

The commission consists of five unpaid members. Three are appointed by the mayor, and two are elected by firefighters.

The commission met Tuesday and approved the promotion of Matthew Peckham, a captain who will now be a district chief in charge of health and safety.

In other business, firefighter Brad Garton received a 12-hour suspension for being late to work four times in a year. Garton had not been disciplined before, Fire Chief Amy Biggs said.

Jerry and Linda Vandeveer were recognized for their efforts in building the Law Enforcement/Firefighters Memorial of Allen County on Wells Street.
