1 dead, 2 injured in head-on collision on U.S. 33

A Fort Wayne man was killed and two people were hurt in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon on U.S. 33, according to authorities.

Witnesses told investigators that a black Mercedes sedan was headed south on U.S. 33, north of Hildebrand Road, when it crossed the center line for an unknown reason and hit a maroon Ford F-350 pickup truck that was northbound, the Allen County Sheriff's Department said.

The crash sent the truck into a ditch, and the Mercedes came to a rest in the middle of the road. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene about 3 p.m.

The Mercedes driver, 29-year-old Randall Fulk, was extricated from the vehicle and flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.

The county coroner's office said Fulk died from his injuries about 6:20 p.m. at the hospital. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the office said.

The sheriff's department said the truck driver was in serious condition and that a passenger with minor injuries was in good condition. Both were taken by ambulance to a hospital. Their names were not released.

U.S. 33 was closed between Hildebrand and Giesking roads until about 8 p.m. while the crash was investigated, the sheriff's department said.
