Angola man accused of break-in, child neglect

Cook

An Angola man was arrested Thursday, accused of breaking into a Lake James home while neglecting a 2-year-old child.

Dustin Cook, 29, is charged with felony residential entry and child neglect.

Officers went to a home at Lake James at 11:39 a.m. Thursday to investigate suspicious activity, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department said.

Officers found evidence someone had entered the home and might have been interrupted by the homeowner, police said.

Officers found Cook nearby but did not find any items missing from the home, police said.

Cook was charged with child neglect after officers found a 2-year-old child he had left alone while he entered the Lake James home, police said.

He was being held without bail Thursday at the Steuben County Jail.
