4 hurt in downtown crash

FORT WAYNE – A crash early Friday in downtown Fort Wayne sent four people to the hospital, none of them seriously injured, city police said.

An officer attempted to stop a vehicle at West Jefferson Boulevard and Catalpa Street, near Rockhill Park, shortly after 3 a.m., according to information released by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Between Nelson Street and Broadway, the suspect’s vehicle was going the wrong way on Jefferson, police spokeswoman Raquel Foster confirmed.

The chase ended downtown at Maiden Lane, just west of the Allen County Republican Party headquarters, when the vehicle collided with another.

Three people in the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital and reported to be in fair condition, Foster said.

The driver and only occupant of the suspect vehicle was also taken to a local hospital, and was later taken to the Allen County Jail on multiple related charges, Foster said.
