Komets end losing streak

The Komets snapped out of their recent slide with a 3-1 victory over Toledo in the Huntington Center.

The victory ended a six-game losing streak for Fort Wayne (27-27-2), which had only scored nine times during the skid.

The Komets moved to within seven points of the eighth and final playoff spot in the ECHL's Eastern Division after Elmira fell to Kalamazoo in a shootout. The teams were tied at 1 after regulation, and the Wings won the shootout 2-1.

Brandon Marino scored the winning goal for the Komets against the Walleye with 2:54 left to play. Marino's goal came just more than three minutes after Nino Mustielli tied the game at 1 for Toledo (30-19-6).

Matt Syroczynski opened the scoring at 11:52 in the second period with a power-play goal. He also assisted on Marino's game-winning goal.

Jean-Michel Rizk added an empty-net goal with five seconds to play.

Jeff Deslauriers, who was recently sent down to the Komets from the NHL's Anaheim Ducks, stopped 28 of 29 shots.

The Komets, who have 16 games remaining in the regular season, play Wheeling at 5 p.m. today in Memorial Coliseum.
