Shots fired, neighbor threatened in domestic dispute

Hettinger

A Warsaw-area man was in custody Friday morning, accused of injuring a woman, shooting a handgun and threatening a neighbor with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Joseph Amanuel Hettinger, 33, was being held without bond on a preliminary charge of felony domestic battery and two counts of felony intimidation with a deadly weapon, according to a statement issued by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies and members of the Warsaw Police Department were called to the Westhaven Estates Mobile Home Park, northwest of Warsaw, about 1:20 a.m. on reports that shots had been fired.

Hettinger was taken into custody moments later, the statement said.

Police said officers found several weapons in the suspect's residence, including a Springfield 9mm handgun believed to be the weapon fired three times in an unknown direction.

The woman and suspect were bleeding and had minor injuries as the result of an earlier domestic dispute, which escalated to a physical fight, the sheriff's department said.

The woman told police she fled the residence in response to comments that put her in fear of her life. Witnesses told police Hettinger followed her to another mobile home and threatened its owner with a shotgun.
