Mastodons top Oakland

With Oakland's defense bent on stopping IPFW senior Frank Gaines, the rest of the Mastodons came through with a 77-71 victory over the Grizzlies on Wednesday at Memorial Coliseum.

Overplaying Gaines in the second half after Gaines scored 13 first-half points, IPFW had four other players score in double figures to end the Grizzlies' six-game winning streak.

It was the third successive win for IPFW (13-16, 6-9 Summit League).

Gaines finished with 17 points, while Luis Jacobo had 15, Joe Reed had 14, Joe Edwards had 11 and Mario Hines had 10.
