Ambulance struck on emergency run

An accused drunken driver of a pickup truck ran a red light and struck an ambulance on an emergency run, according to a city police report.

With its lights and sirens on, the ambulance was headed north on Hobson Road about 1:30 a.m. Saturday when the driver, paramedic Diana Lantz, 50, stopped at East Coliseum Boulevard and waited for traffic to stop. The ambulance had the green light when it pulled into the intersection and was struck by a westbound 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, the report stated.

The ambulance had one passenger, paramedic Coleen Loche, 46. The pickup truck driver was identified as Garrett Wagner, 22, of Elmhurst, Ill., the report said.

All three were taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries, said Mike Gillespie, a spokesman for the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority. A blood test showed Wagner’s blood-alcohol content was 0.21 percent, the report said.

He was booked in the Allen County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He posted a $750 bond.
