2nd suspect arrested in apartment robberies

Corey L. Harris

FORT WAYNE – A second city man has been arrested on criminal charges related to a string of holdups that targeted residents of Fort Wayne apartment complexes.

Corey L. Harris, 21, was arrested Tuesday on charges of receiving stolen property and obstruction of justice, according to a statement issued by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Police said evidence found during a search of his residence linked him to a Jan. 8 investigation involving a robbery at the Autumn Creek apartment complex.

The department said it continues to investigate the robberies and said additional arrests are anticipated. It urged apartment residents to remain vigilant.

Devonte M. Hamlet, 20, was arrested Jan. 22 on an allegation he robbed a family during a home invasion the night of Jan. 10 at Island Club Apartments, near East Wallen and Auburn roads.

He also faces preliminary charges linking him to another robbery the same night at Cambridge Square Apartments, near Coldwater and East Cook roads.

The rash of 13 similar apartment robberies started Jan. 7, and the most recent occurred Jan. 18. Police have said they cannot definitively link all the holdups, and that they don't believe all were committed by the same one or two people.
