Homestead bowler finishes 2nd at state

Homestead’s Sydney Brummett, the No. 1 girls seed after bowling a three-game series of 710 earlier in the day, fell to Carly Larson of Merrillville 235-234 in the singles final of the Indiana High School Bowling Association state tournament Saturday in Lafayette.

Brummett earned the top seed among the 24 individuals with games of 247, 248, and 215. The series was the day’s best, even among the boys bowlers.

Columbia City’s Courtney Rhodes was ninth in the qualifying round with a 539. She had series of 193, 187, 159.

Huntington North’s girls team was 10th.

Boys individual results: 12th, Jeremy Miller, Snider, 588 (202, 186, 200); 14th, Keaton Turner, DeKalb, 560 (200, 169, 191); 16th, Reid Collis, Canterbury, 544; and 21st, Tyler Krepp, Huntington North, 511.

In the team event, Carroll was eighth (2,701), and Northrop was ninth (2,634).
