IPFW women even conference record

The IPFW women's basketball team evened its Summit League and moved into a tie for fourth place with Omaha with a 49-42 victory over UMKC on Thursday in Gates Center.

IPFW (10-14, 6-6) broke away from UMKC (8-17, 4-8) five minutes into the second half with a 9-0 run that turned a 26-23 deficit with 14:24 to play into a 32-26 lead with 11:50 remaining.

Haley Seibert and Erin Murphy each had 15 points for IPFW, and Amanda Hyde added 13.

Taylor Leathers scored nine for the Kangaroos, who didn't have a player reach double digits.

Both teams struggled shooting with IPFW going 12 for 47 (26 percent) from the floor and UMKC going 17 for 47 (36 percent).

The Mastodons were able to offset their struggles shooting at the free-throw line make 21 of 24 free throws. The Kangaroos only had five free-throw attempts and made them all.
