Child molested at Pokagon; suspect charged

Elleneberger

A northeast Indiana man was released on bond Monday after being accused of molesting a 4-year-old this weekend at the Potawatomi Inn.

Deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff's Department were called to Pokagon State Park on Lake James shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday to find that adults were holding a suspect in the case.

David John Elleneberger, 25, of Mentone, has been charged with child molestation, according to a statement issued by Sheriff Tim Troyer.

An initial investigation indicates the child was approached while inside a restroom near the indoor swimming pool, the statement said.

The sheriff's department said that Elleneberger later confessed during formal interviews.

Elleneberger was arraigned in magistrate court at 1 p.m. Monday and bond was set at $100,000, the sheriff's statement said. He was released from custody about 2:15 p.m. after posting bond.

According to the statement, the 4-year-old was from another state, vacationing with family and did not know the suspect.

The investigation has been turned over to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division and the Steuben County Prosecutor's Office.
