Luers pitches 1st-half shutout to win sectional

The Bishop Luers girls basketball team scored the first 43 points and cruised to a 54-13 victory over South Adams in the championship game of a Class 2A sectional in Bluffton on Saturday night.

The Knights, who were the runners-up in the state last year, didn’t allow a point until 2 minutes, 34 seconds remained in the third quarter.

Erin Butler and Taya Andrews both scored 12 for the Knights, while Addie Reimbold added 10.

SNIDER 67, NORTHROP 29: Meredith Shipman scored 21 points in a Class 4A sectional championship game at Snider. Deja Wimby added 13 and Bryanna Moore had 12 for the Panthers, who opened the game with a 19-6 run.

Northrop was led by Aleah Swary’s nine points.

CANTERBURY 87, BETHANY CHRISTIAN 34: Darby Maggard and Aaliyah Gaines both scored 20 points – they combined to make 16 of 25 shots – as the Cavaliers won the Class A sectional title at home. Kindell Fincher added 17 points.

SOUTHERN WELLS 41, MONROE CENTRAL 36: In Poneto, Ashton Prible’s 12 points paced the Raiders, who won the Class A sectional title at home.

Boys basketball

BISHOP LUERS 80, TRADERS POINT 66: James Blackmon Jr. scored 24 points and Tyrell Johnson added 17 for the Knights at home. They were up one point before a 22-13 third-quarter run put the game out of reach.

WHITKO 50, MANCHESTER 48: In South Whitley, Alex Stoddard scored 14 points and Dylan Cumberland added 12 for the Wildcats. Manchester’s Clayton Petrie scored 17.

ADAMS CENTRAL 44, EASTSIDE 37: In Monroe, the Flying Jets closed the game with a 20-13 run. Hayden Black scored 12 points and Blade Kable had 11.

Eastside’s Jayden Lilly scored 23, including 15-of-15 free-throw shooting.

WAWASEE 50, CENTRAL NOBLE 43: In Syracuse, Gage Reinhard scored 19 points and Alex Clark added 16 for the Warriors, who fought back from a 10-point halftime deficit.

Bowling

SOUTH BEND SEMISTATE: Highland won the boys championship with a 406-355 step-ladder championship over Northrop. On the girls’ side, Portage beat Boone Grove 389-356. Huntington North’s Tyler Krepp placed fourth among the boys. Columbia City’s Courtney Rhodes was fourth among the girls.
