The Komets got blasted by the host Colorado Eagles 6-1 Saturday before 5,289 fans at the Budweiser Events Center.
Charlie Effinger gave up six goals on 30 shots as the Komets didn't have another goalie after Marco Cousineau was called up to Norfolk of the AHL.
The Eagles won two of the three games in Loveland, Colo., over the span of four nights.
This was the most lopsided of the games as the Eagles got the first five goals – two from Cody Sol and one apiece from Dylan Hood, Joey Sides and Steve Haddon – before 25 minutes had expired.
Fort Wayne got its goal in the final minute of the second period when Thomas Beauregard beat goalie Kyle Jones.
The Komets, who next play Tuesday at North Division-leading Cincinnati, were outshot 21-9 through the first two periods.
The Komets had only 14 shots.
Effinger played in a fifth straight game and made his fourth straight start. Without Cousineau to back him up, the Komets looked to former Colorado State goalie John Miller as an emergency netminder.
