Ohio school district wants students to pay up

WOODSFIELD, Ohio (AP) — A southeast Ohio school district says it will penalize students who owe more than $50 in their lunch bills by taking away their extra-curricular activities.

WTOV-TV reports that the Switzerland Of Ohio Local School District notified parents of the move this week.

The district is giving families and students two weeks to get their lunch accounts paid up before they penalize them.

Superintendent Larry Elliott said it's something administrators don't want to have to do, but they needed to get students to take care of their unpaid bills in the financially strapped school district.

Elliott said many district parents have already paid their bills without issue.

The district, which covers Monroe and parts of Noble and Belmont counties, includes three high schools, a career center and six elementary buildings.
