FORT WAYNE – Park officials warn that ice on the skating ponds at Lakeside and Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir parks is weak and wont hold the weight of skaters, so they remain closed.
Cold temperatures and high winds have produced a thin, smooth ice cover on both ponds, which is enticing to skaters.
But park officials warn that cracking is appearing away from the edges and the ice is much thinner than it appears.
While the ponds remain unsafe for skating, red lights and flags will be displayed at the sites.
