Firefighters quench blaze at vacant home

Firefighters put out a fire Thursday afternoon at a vacant or abandoned Jones Street home, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said.

No one was injured.

The fire department responded to a report of smoke from the second floor at 1318 Jones St. about 4:20 p.m., firefighters said in a statement.

They located the seat of the fire in the basement, the statement said, with fire extending to the first and second floors through air ducts.

The fire was controlled within 27 minutes, with moderate smoke damage and minor fire and water damage, the statement said. It remains under investigation.
