Coach Al Sims and captain Colin Chaulk retired, and now so has the goaltender who backstopped them to four championships between 2008 and 2012.The Komets and the Vera Bradley Foundation have planned their second annual "Pink the Rink" weekend Feb. 1 and 2 to raise money to fight breast cancer and to promote awareness for early detection and treatment, the club said today.
The weekend, which raised $15,000 in 2012, will be Feb. 1 against Kalamazoo and Feb. 2 against Cincinnati, the Komets said in a statement.
Komets palyers will wear pink jerseys trimmed in white and black during both games, the statement said. It said the jerseys will be sold during a silent auction held both nights, with net proceeds donated to the foundation.
Autographed "Pink the Rink" player pucks also will be sold for $15 each, with proceeds going to the foundation, the statement said.
The foundation, formed in 1998, has contributed $17.65 million to breast-cancer research at Indiana University's Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis.
