House fire handy for crews to fight

A house caught fire across the street from a fire station Sunday morning in southwest Fort Wayne, the city fire department said in a news release.

About 10:50 a.m., a person walked into Southwest Fire District Station 1 at 7001 Old Trail Road, near Lower Huntington and Bluffton roads, to report a blaze at 7008 Old Trail Road.

Firefighters with the Southwest Fire District went to the home as did Fort Wayne firefighters. No one was in the two-story house at the time, according to the department.

It took 20 minutes to bring the flames under control. The blaze, which started in the kitchen, left behind heavy smoke damage and moderate fire damage, the department said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
