CHEERS for a second time to my “Kroger angel.” On Dec. 15, my Cheer appeared, thanking the angel who paid for my groceries at Kroger’s Maplecrest location. On the 17th, as I was opening my mail, I opened a Christmas card and out fell a new $100 bill – no address on the card, no name inside. What a blessing and gift at Christmastime, or any time – a gift of kindness. My “Kroger angel” is the one God will bless many times over.

CHEERS to all who helped make the 2012 Coats for Kids Children’s Winter Coat Collection an outstanding success. A total of 3,107 coats were distributed prior to the December school break. Thanks to wonderful donors we were able to deliver all the increased number of coats that were requested.

Our sincere thanks go to:

•21 Alive for its outstanding media support of this Fort Wayne holiday season tradition.

•Our great partners – Kroger’s and Scotts Food Stores, Oasis Radio and Peerless Cleaners.

•Wells Fargo Foundation for a major donation that allowed us to purchase 200 coats.

•Fort Wayne Fire Department Station No. 9 and firefighter Doug Call, who collected more than 500 coats and delivered coats to local schools.

•Residents of Shepherd’s House for donations of new coats.

•Teachers and case managers who took the time to “place an order” for the number of coats and sizes that were needed.

•Early Childhood Alliance, CANI, Vincent Village and SCAN case managers, who placed orders for hundreds of coats for their clients.

•The Komets and Mad Ants, which collected coats at their home games and offered incentives to their fans who donated.

•Best Winter Hats for donation of 200 new hats.

•Oakwood Elementary School for donating hats and mittens.

•Our knitters, who produced hundreds of sets of knitted goods that went with a majority of the coats.

•The RSVP volunteer team, which sorted mountains of coats, matched mittens, scarves and hats and filled the orders for each group.

•Every person who took the time to donate coats.
