Woman in holdup at drugstore sought

Investigators are seeking the public’s help in catching a woman who robbed a customer in a drugstore north of Fort Wayne.

The woman, armed with a handgun, came into the Walgreens, near Tonkel Road and Indiana 1, about 8:30 p.m. Friday, and she demanded money from a cashier, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department said.

After the cashier was unable to open the register, the woman pointed the gun at a customer behind her and demanded her purse. The victim handed over the purse, which held cash and credit cards, and the robber fled the store, the department said.

The robber was described as in her early 20s and white with brown or blond hair. She stood 5-foot-3, had a lip or eyebrow piercing and wore a gray hooded sweatshirt, black yoga pants, white tennis shoes and “a lot of eye makeup,” the department said.

The store’s surveillance system captured images of the woman, and they were released to the news media Tuesday. Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call detective David Schmidt at 449-7466.
