Authorities have released the name of the truck driver who police say caused a six-vehicle crash that killed two women last week in New Haven.
Scott A. Saunders, 50, of Kenosha, Wis., was driving a tractor-trailer rig that rear-ended vehicles on U.S. 30 near Doyle Road the morning of Jan. 8, New Haven police said.
Suzanne K. Stephenson, 65, of Monroeville and Sandra Dealey, 43, of Convoy, Ohio, died at the scene of the crash, the Allen County Coroners Office said. The two were in separate vehicles, driving alone, police said.
Seven other motorists were hospitalized. Two of those people were in serious condition, police said.
All the vehicles involved were initially in the westbound lanes of U.S. 30. The light at Doyle Road had turned green, and a line of traffic had started to move when the crash occurred, police said.
The rig failed to stop or slow down and hit at least two of the vehicles from behind, prompting a chain reaction, police said. The crash remains under investigation.
