Lindsay Lohan pleaded not guilty Tuesday to three misdemeanor charges related to a car crash and was ordered to appear in court for a hearing this month.

Her plea was entered by her attorney Shawn Holley. Lohan was not required to attend.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Jane Godfrey said the actress must appear at a Jan. 30 pretrial hearing.

Lohan is charged with lying to police, reckless driving and obstructing police from performing their duties.

Godfrey also set a Feb. 27 trial date on the misdemeanor counts.

New award rules

The National Book Awards are getting a rewrite.

A “long list” of 10 nominees will be announced for each of the four competitive categories before being narrowed to the traditional five finalists. And the pool of judges will be expanded beyond writers to include critics, booksellers and librarians.

The changes were announced Tuesday by the National Book Foundation, which presents the awards. Publishers have been looking for ways to broaden their appeal and have looked to Britain’s popular Man Booker Prize as a model.

New idol for Fox

Actress Megan Fox tells Esquire magazine she wanted to be like Marilyn Monroe and even has a tattoo of the late actress on her arm, but has now begun the process of having it removed.

The 26-year-old says she read about Monroe’s “difficult life.” Monroe, she says, “wasn’t reliable” and “almost wasn’t insurable.” Fox says she’s “not interested in following in those footsteps.”

Fox now admires Ava Gardner who “was a broad” who spoke her mind and “had power.”

‘Killing’ reborn

“The Killing” will live another season.

AMC and Fox Television Studios announced Tuesday the return of this crime drama for a third season after months spent in limbo.

The show’s stars, Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, will be back, as will executive producer Veena Sud. Production resumes Feb. 25. No premiere date was mentioned.
