Komets top Evansville

Mike Hoban scored the lone goal in the third period as the visiting Komets beat Evansville 1-0 on Wednesday.

Hoban’s unassisted goal came late in the third, and goalie Ken Reiter stopped all 36 shots he faced for the shutout.

Fort Wayne (22-17-2) has won eight of its last 12 games and improved to 4-2-0 against Evansville (15-22-4).

Before the game, Norfolk of the higher-level American Hockey League returned forwards Brandon Marino and Jean-Michel Rizk, along with defenseman Ryan Hegarty, to the Komets. Marino, who leads Fort Waynein points, and Rizk, who leads in goals, played one game with the Admirals. Hegarty didn’t play. They weren’t in the lineup Wednesday night. They should play Friday against Toledo at Memorial Coliseum.

Forward Luca Caputi, who had missed six games with a shoulder injury, was back in the lineup for the Komets. So was all-star defenseman Daniel Maggio, who missed three games while with Bridgeport of the AHL.
