Some familiar titles received nominations for the Writers Guild of Americas screen awards Friday.
In the adapted screenplay category, the union nominated Argo, Life of Pi, Lincoln, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Silver Linings Playbook.
For original screenplay, the nominees are Flight, Looper, The Master, Moonrise Kingdom and Zero Dark Thirty.
Documentary screenplays receiving nods are The Central Park Five, The Invisible War, Mea Maxima Culpa, Searching for Sugar Man, We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists and West of Memphis.
Nominations for writing in television had been previously announced. Honorary awards have not been unveiled.
The writers union will announce its award winners on Feb. 17.
Oscars to honor Bond anniversary
Oscar wont be the only chiseled man in the spotlight at the 85th Academy Awards.
Telecast producers say the show will also feature a celebration of Bond, James Bond.
Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced Friday that the show will pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise, which they describe as the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a beloved global phenomenon.
The most recent Bond film, Skyfall, was released in November and has made more than $1 billion worldwide – a franchise record.
Nominations for this years Academy Awards will be announced Thursday. The Oscars will be presented Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Adele tops sales for second year
Turns out Adele ruled 2012, too – and set a record while she was at it.
The British singers 21 was the highest-selling album in the U.S. for the second consecutive year, according to 2012 sales figures released by Nielsen SoundScan on Thursday.
Thats a first in the SoundScan era.
Adele sold 4.4 million copies of the album in 2012 after selling 5.8 million in 2011. She crossed the 10 million threshold in November and was only rivaled by Taylor Swift, whose Red was second on the list with 3.1 million albums sold. Swift led a record five country artists into the top 10 last year.
Gotye scored the years top-selling song with Somebody That I Used To Know featuring Kimbra. The song was downloaded a record 6.8 million times.
