Ohio slaying suspect arrested in Fort Wayne

Martin

A man sought in connection with a November 2012 slaying in Rockford, Ohio, was arrested today in Fort Wayne, the Mercer County, Ohio, sheriff said.

Daniel Charles Martin, 40, fled the area after the Nov. 8 slaying, Sheriff Jeff Grey said in a statement.

Grey said this morning deputy U.S. marshals and Mercer County detectives raided the home in which Martin was staying, seizing an AK-47 assault rifle and taking Martin into custody.

Martin is accused of killing Melinda S. Shinn, 26, at their mobile home, Grey has said.

He has said Martin has family in Fort Wayne, and his red 1998 Ford Explorer was found in the city the day of the slaying.

Rockford's police chief found Shinn dead at the mobile home after responding to a report of a possible shooting. Neighbors told investigators the couple had been arguing the previous night.
