PHILADELPHIA – Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles has a broken right hand, and coach Andy Reid said Michael Vick will likely start against the New York Giants in Sundays season finale.
Reid said Foles broke his hand in the second quarter of a loss to Washington, but returned after X-rays at the stadium were negative. Vick hasnt played since a concussion Nov. 11.
Theres a pretty good chance Michael will be the starter, Reid said. Thats what were looking at right now. Thats the direction Im going as we speak right now.
Despite injury, Packers want Cobb on returns
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy says leading receiver Randall Cobb is too valuable to take off of kick returns for safety reasons.
McCarthy said if Cobb is healthy, he will be the Packers full-time punt and kick returner, even in the wake of the ankle injury he suffered in Sundays 55-7 rout of Tennessee.
Ill be honest with you: I dont have a really high tolerance for this (question) because I dont understand how you play scared in the game of football, McCarthy said.
Tebow willing to play wildcat, Ryan says
Rex Ryan acknowledges that Tim Tebow was disappointed the New York Jets coach chose Greg McElroy over him to start for the benched Mark Sanchez, but says Tebow would have played in any role that was asked of him – including the wildcat. A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press Tebow asked out of his wildcat duties last week after hearing that third-stringer McElroy would start.
Around the league
The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year contract extension with veteran long snapper Patrick Mannelly. Trent Richardson (ankle) and Brandon Weeden (shoulder) were not ruled out for Sunday. Buffalo has placed tight end Scott Chandler (knee) on injured reserve.
