Actor and musician Steven Van Zandt is the recipient of the Big Man award for Little Kids Rock, a charity named for his late fellow E Street Band member, Clarence Clemons.

Springsteen presents charity honor to Van Zandt

NEW YORK — The night busted open in New York City as Bruce Springsteen and other Rock and Roll Hall of Famers helped Steven Van Zandt celebrate his Big Man of the Year award.

Darlene Love, Elvis Costello and Dion were among a host of performers Tuesday night at a rollicking benefit for the Little Kids Rock school music initiative.

Bruce Springsteen had some fun while presenting Van Zandt with the award — gleefully detailing his one-time roommate's lack of housekeeping skills.

The charity named the award for E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons in 2009, two years before he died.

Besides his E Street gig, Van Zandt multi-tasks as an actor, record and television producer, radio host, songwriter and arranger. He also oversees two satellite channels and an educational foundation.
