Late score lifts Busco to victory

– Jason Nicodemus rushed for 300 yards on 36 carries, as Churubusco defeated Fairfield 29-23 on Friday night in Goshen.

Nicodemus had two touchdowns – from 7 and 41 yards out – as the Eagles (7-1, 7-0 NECC) recovered from their 35-16 loss to Culver on Sept. 28.

Cody Conwell scored the game-winning touchdown on a 5-yard run with 6 seconds to play after Cory Miller’s 82-yard kickoff return to the 16-yard line of the Falcons (6-2, 6-2), which has lost back-to-back games.

Churubusco will square off with Lakeland (8-0, 7-0) for the conference title next week.

NORTHROP 33, WAYNE 31: Colin Brockhouse threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns for the host Bruins, who in two overtimes. Northrop (4-4) got the game-winner from Kiondre Scott-Tanner against Wayne (1-7).

CARROLL 20, COLUMBIA CITY 6: Justin Tranquil had a 70-yard touchdown reception and a 13-yard touchdown run for the Chargers (6-2) at Columbia City (3-5). He also had an interception. Drue Tranquill gained 73 yards on eight carries and had seven solo tackles.

BELLMONT 34, DEKALB 6: Trevor Love rushed 16 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns, while teammate Josh Hall ran for 90 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns, as the Braves (4-4) won in Waterloo.

NORTH SIDE 42, SOUTH SIDE 13: C.J. Jackson accounted for five touchdowns – three on passes, two on rushes – for the Redskins (6-2) at South Side. The Archers (2-6) have lost three of their last four.

COLUMBUS (Ohio) HARTLEY 40, BISHOP LUERS 7: In a game that featured two Notre Dame recruits – Jaylon Smith of the Knights (5-3) and tight end Jacob Matuska of Hartley (7-0) – the Knights were down 33-0 before the fourth quarter began. Tyvel Jemison had a 1-yard touchdown run for the Knights. Hartley’s JaWuan Woodley, a Toledo recruit, had three rushing touchdowns.

LAKELAND 32, CONCORDIA 14: Joey Fuller ran for 102 yards and a touchdown for the Lakers (8-0) in LaGrange. Concordia (2-6) got 68 yards and a touchdown on Marq Rogers’ six catches.

ADAMS CENTRAL 14, BLUFFTON 0: Kyle Baker ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns for the Flying Jets (5-3) in Monroe. Isaac Soldner had six solo tackles. Bluffton fell to 5-3.

WOODLAN 37, SOUTH ADAMS 0: Jaylin Bennett ran for 162 yards and two touchdowns, and T.J. Sewell accounted for three touchdowns for the Warriors (2-6) in Berne.

ROCHESTER 20, WHITKO 17: Devin Gerding ran for 150 yards and a touchdown for Whitko (3-5) at Rochester (5-3), which has won five of its last six.

HERITAGE 26, JAY COUNTY 7: Brenton Lockett ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns for Heritage (6-2) in Monroeville. Conner Sheehan completed 5 of 8 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown to Lockett, who had two catches for 32 yards. J.D. Mangas ran for 127 yards for Jay County (3-5).

HOMESTEAD 20, NORWELL 7: Kam Hladish had a 42-yard field-goal attempt blocked, but he converted from 31 and 42 yards for the Spartans (8-0) at home. Frank Martin ran for 119 yards.

EASTSIDE 58, CENTRAL NOBLE 7: Ty Lockhart scored four touchdowns, three on punt returns, for the host Blazers (4-4).

PRAIRIE HEIGHTS 28, WEST NOBLE 6: Erik Mawhorter had the lone touchdown for the Chargers (1-7) on a 1-yard run in Ligonier. Prairie Heights (3-5) had 297 rushing yards, 116 more than West Noble.

RICHMOND 30, HUNTINGTON NORTH 12: The visiting Vikings fell in a pivotal North Central Conference game. Huntington North (4-4) surrendered 24 points in the second quarter.

NORTH MIAMI 12, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 7: Ben Shriver completed 13 of 27 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown for the Vikings (7-1) in Denver, as North Miami (6-2) won for the fifth time in six games.
