Huntington’s Robert Gearhart bought a Mega Millions ticket in Fort Wayne worth $250,000.

Jackpot missed by one number

Huntington man wins $250,000 in Mega Millions

A lifelong Huntington resident is set to have a few extra coins in his bank account after winning $250,000 in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions lottery drawing.

Robert Gearhart bought a winning quick-pick ticket at the Lassus Handy Dandy at 7405 Maplecrest Road right after dropping his son off at school Tuesday morning, Hoosier Lottery officials said.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Gearhart, who works in HVAC sales in Fort Wayne, said in a prepared statement issued by the lottery.

“I’ve always thought I’d win something sometime. I’ve just been waiting for the day. It finally happened.”

The winning Mega Millions numbers Tuesday night were 16-32-39-41-53, and the Mega Ball was 16, according to lottery officials. Gearhart matched the first five numbers but, like everyone else in the nation, did not get the Mega Ball.

Because no one got all six numbers, Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot rolled from about $93 million to an estimated $105 million, according to lottery officials.

Gearhart said he plans to put his winnings in the bank.
