3-TD game lifts Eagles

Adam Neely had three touchdowns – two rushing, one receiving – as Columbia City defeated visiting Bellmont 24-13 on Friday night.

Down 7-0 in the first quarter, Neely ran for a 4-yard touchdown.

With the Braves ahead 10-6, Neely’s 44-yard touchdown reception put the Eagles up. And in the third quarter, Neely added a 71-yard rushing touchdown. He finished with 172 rushing yards.

EASTSIDE 14, ANGOLA 7: The Blazers got a 48-yard touchdown run from P.J. Dean and a 21-yard touchdown pass from Blake Blaker to Colin Dove in Butler, defeating the Hornets, who still have one of their own in the hospital.

All-conference cornerback Sam Gardner, who was injured in an ATV accident Aug. 21, is no longer in a medically induced coma.

“Late (Friday) morning they removed the breathing tube – what an immediate relief,” it was written on Gardner’s CaringBridge web page in the afternoon. “Almost immediately Sam was answering questions with a soft raspy voice, and asking questions of his own, mostly pertaining to what time today would he be going home. Some of his statements make no sense, but many of them are dead on. … He also provided details about the Eastside football team when (it was) mentioned that there was a game tonight.”

CHURUBUSCO 42, PRAIRIE HEIGHTS 0: Jason Nicodemus rushed 12 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns in Churubusco, where the Eagles gave up only 1 rushing yard and 28 passing yards.

CARROLL 56, NORWELL 7: Chris Terry completed 11 of 16 passes for 185 yards and five touchdowns in Ossian, while Jimmy Crumley rushed six times for 70 yards and a touchdown. Norwell’s William Gerber rushed 13 times for 58 yards.

LAKELAND 65, CENTRAL NOBLE 13: Cory Troyer led the Lakers in LaGrange with four carries for 96 yards and four touchdowns. Central Noble’s Alexander Vice rushed 14 times for 103 yards and both Cougars touchdowns.

CONCORDIA 40, WAYNE 17: David Morrison completed 16 of 27 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns at Wayne. Bryndon Williams rushed 17 times for 87 yards and a touchdown. For Wayne, Jaylon Thomas completed 7 of 14 passes for 38 yards, one touchdown and an interception.

BLUFFTON 24, SOUTH ADAMS 6: Malcolm Marshall threw for 65 yards and rushed for 29 and two touchdowns, as the Tigers won in Berne. D’Wayne Eskridge gained 84 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Isaiah Marshall had nine tackles.

Leading South Adams was Sam Dellinger with 73 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

GARRETT 56, WEST NOBLE 6: Noah Follett threw for 189 yards and three touchdowns – and he rushed for a touchdown – for the Railroaders at home. Cole Wilson had two receptions – both for touchdowns – totaling 107 yards. Drake Landes and Brandon Porter also had touchdown catches, while Bo Davis scored on a 3-yard fumble recovery. Eric Mawhorter scored the West Noble touchdown and gained 99 yards.

LEO 34, ADAMS CENTRAL 0: Reid Rohrbacher rushed for two touchdowns and Sam Waters threw for another two as the Lions won at home, holding the Flying Jets to 49 rushing yards and only 10 passing yards. Jackson Boyce had six catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Waters completed 14 of 21 passes for 165 yards.

TIPPECANOE VALLEY 51, MANCHESTER 14: Ben Shriver completed 11 of 17 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown for the Vikings at home. Chris Torpy added 69 rushing yards and a touchdown.

WHITKO 42, SOUTHWOOD 20: Tanner Hughes rushed 23 times for 132 yards and a touchdown, and Devin Gerding added 11 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown.
