Charges filed as Craigslist buyer held up

What started as a sale of cellphones through Craigslist turned into an armed robbery in the parking lot of a Fort Wayne restaurant, according to court papers.

For the past year, a man had been advertising on Craigslist looking to buy used cellphones. In late July, he received a text message from someone wanting to sell two iPhones, court papers said.

A price was agreed upon, and a meeting was set to take place at Chili’s, 317 Coliseum Blvd. E. The buyer went to Chili’s about 12:30 a.m. July 29 and asked a man standing behind the restaurant whether he had iPhones for sale, court papers stated.

The man said no and asked for a light for his cigarette. As the buyer took out a lighter, the man with the cigarette pulled a handgun and pointed it at the buyer.

The armed man took $249 and drove off, court papers said.

A Fort Wayne detective did a Google search for the phone number of the person who claimed to have two iPhones to sell and found the website of a rapper named Quan G, also known as Shiquan L. Guy.

Through a photo lineup, the victim identified Guy as the person who robbed him, court papers said.

Guy, 19, of the 2400 block of South Calhoun Street, was charged Thursday with robbery. He was being held at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
