Ex stalked woman, pointed gun: Police

A man is accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend after she filed 17 police reports in the past year that detailed theft, vandalism and repeated harassment against her, her family and her friends.

James E. Lawson, 21, of the 6100 block of Blue Spruce Court, was arrested Tuesday. He is charged with criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm and two counts of stalking.

The woman got a protective order against Lawson, barring him from seeing her, after he admitted to stealing the gas cap from her vehicle. He also offered her $100 to have lunch with him in 47 pages of messages on Facebook, court records said.

He continued to contact the woman on Facebook after being served with the protective order, and she told police in September that Lawson fired a rifle multiple times into a home where she was, a probable cause affidavit said.

Another police report details how the woman called Fort Wayne police to a residence to speak with her because Lawson was there. Police found a large, hunting-style foldout knife in Lawson’s possession at the time, court records said.

Lawson also jumped on the woman’s car to prevent her from leaving after he followed her around the city. At the time, Lawson was armed with a box cutter-style knife, court records said.

Police said Lawson went to a home where his ex-girlfriend was in May and demanded to talk to her. When another man went to the door to see what Lawson wanted, Lawson pointed a loaded shotgun at the man, court papers said.

Lawson was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
