BERNE, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces that SR 218 will close between SR 116 and US 27 in Berne, from 10 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m., on Tuesday, July 31, for the SPC Nicholas A. Taylor funeral service.
SPC Nicholas A. “Nick” Taylor, 20, of Berne, died on Monday, July 16, 2012, representing the Indiana National Guard in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. The funeral service for SPC Taylor will be held on Tuesday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at the South Adams High School gymnasium, 1075 Starfire Way, in Berne. Doors will open for the service at 10 a.m.
Possible detour routes during this closure include SR 116 to US 27. INDOT traffic control crews and Indiana State Police (ISP) officers will be on hand to direct traffic.
According to a First Missionary Church of Berne representative, viewing for SPC Taylor will be held on Monday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the South Adams High School gymnasium. The viewing and the funeral service are open to the public and to members of the media.
Following the July 31 11 a.m. funeral service, the route of travel to the cemetery will be Parkway Street west to CR 150W, then north on CR 150W to SR 218, turning west to the cemetery.
On Saturday, July 28, at noon, a gentleman from Illinois will be assembling volunteers in the parking lot at South Adams High School with the purpose of placing approximately 2,200 American flags along the procession route. This individual has done this numerous times throughout the country, and he has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning. He will be there rain or shine.
