Suspect in shooting charged with attempted murder

James

FORT WAYNE -- A 28-year-old Fort Wayne man is charged with attempted murder in the Saturday shooting of another man on the city's southeast side.

Allen County prosecutors Monday afternoon charged Quinn Dontrail James, of the 1300 block of Ventura Lane, with attempted murder and aggravated battery in connection with the shooting of Antonio Hamlet about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to court documents, Hamlet was walking north when James pulled up to the intersection of East Fairfax Avenue and Standish Drive. James got out of a silver Pontiac Grand Prix and ran at Hamlet, firing numerous times.

Bullets struck Hamlet several times in the chest and stomach, and Hamlet told police at the scene it was James who had shot him, according to court documents.

Taken to the hospital in critical condition, Hamlet has since been upgraded to serious condition, according to police Tuesday.
