Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords joins hands with her former aide Ron Barber as he campaigns for her former seat. Barber, who was wounded in January 2011 along with Giffords, won a special election last week to fill the remainder of Giffords' term.

New Arizona rep holds 'Congress On Corner' in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Rep. Ron Barber is planning a "Congress on Your Corner" event in Tucson after being sworn in this week to fill the seat vacated by his former boss Gabrielle Giffords.

With backing from Giffords, Barber won a special election last week to represent Arizona's 8th Congressional District. Both were wounded in January 2011 when a gunman opened fire at a "Congress on Your Corner" event for the then-congresswoman and her constituents. Eleven others also were wounded and six people were killed.

Barber's office says his meeting Saturday with voters at a Safeway grocery store will be held at 1 p.m. It previously was scheduled for earlier Saturday, but was postponed by several hours because weather delayed Barber's travels from Washington.

A former Giffords aide, Barber will run again in the November general election.
