Child dead; siblings, mom injured

Mya Tha Tun

A Fort Wayne man was arrested, accused of being drunk in the crash that killed one child and injured the child's mother and siblings Sunday night in Whitley County.

Joel and Christina Hoffman of Fort Wayne were driving a 2003 Honda van west on U.S. 24, with their four young children.

The van was stopped at a red light on U.S. 24 at 8:02 p.m. when it was rear-ended by a 1997 Honda van driven by Mya Tha Tun, the Whitley County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Christina Hoffman and four of her children were injured and taken to a Fort Wayne hospital. One of the children died at the hospital, the statement said.

Mya Tha Tun, 52, of the 1600 block of Hobson Road, was taken to a hospital after complaining of pain and was later arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, the statement said. He is being held at the Whitley County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

The age and sex of the child who died and of the injured children were not released.
