A motorcyclist trying to outrun police was in critical condition after wrecking the bike Saturday night in DeKalb County.
The motorcycle rider, Daniel A. McMahon, 37, of Auburn, was fleeing police in a chase that began in Ashley and ended about six miles south of town when he drove off the north side of County Road 20 and up an embankment west of County Road 23, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department said.
McMahon's motorcycle traveled about 157 feet before wrecking in a field north of County Road 20, the police said.
After the crash, McMahon left the scene and was walking west when he was arrested. The police said they turned him over to paramedics and he was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center by ambulance because of his injuries.
McMahon's last known condition, the police said, was that he was unresponsive and suffering an internal head injury. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The police said criminal charges are pending.
