Monument, statehouse vandalized

INDIANAPOLIS — State police are investigating two cases of vandalism in downtown Indianapolis.

Two statues surrounding the Soldiers and Sailors memorial on Monument Circle were "tagged" with black spray-painted graffiti. Police also discovered another vandalism site outside the Statehouse.

Indiana State Police Captain Dave Bursten says investigators will look at security camera footage from surrounding buildings to see whether the perpetrators were caught on tape.

Stewart Goodwin of the Indiana War Memorials Commission says the cleanup will be especially difficult because the monuments are made of porous limestone. Workers will use a special chemical to treat the monuments.
